D for E

Anika has a new cash register – well, no longer new as it was a Christmas 2008 present from Mama and Daddy.

But, Anika’s cousin, Mayank Bhaia, craftily showed her a way to produce an “E” (error) on the box by dividing a number by zero.

Since Ms Pandey was having trouble grasping the concept, Mama decided to use an illustrative example.

Mama: Let’s say you have 4 chocolate cakes. If we divide by 4 – then Mama has one, Daddy has one, Pumpi has one and Anika has one. So, 4/4 is 1.

Anika: Yup

Mama: Now let’s say you have 4 chocolate cakes and zero people to eat them. Then they will all go bad! That is a problem, an error.

Anika: But Mama, Daddy will eat all the 4 chocolate cakes. So is Daddy the error?
