Dumps has a desire to eat on his own. Let’s just say that it is merely a desire.
Mama hands Pumps a peeled off banana, which Mr Pandey starts nibbling on. A few nibbles later, the desire to, let’s say, hug the stranded plush toy, or the desire to throw a few plates around, overpowers the desire to nibble. Pumpi simply places the banana down – it could be on the floor, on the rug, on the sofa, in the bathroom, on Daddy’s guitar – and proceeds with the next act.
A few minutes later, Mama notices Pumpi strolling around aimlessly – banana missing from his hands. There is no way he could have finished it, could he? One simple way to find out.
“Pumpi, can you go and get the ‘nana?”
Pumpi drops everything he was doing, and narrows down on the unfinished banana like a Cruise missile – wherever it may be hidden – and brings it back.
And this is not all. Let us say, Pumpi’s socks were strewn on the floor somewhere. Or we are simply playing hide and seek and Gubsi is hiding. Or Mama has misplaced Pumpi’s shoes.
“Go and find your socks Pumpi“.
And off he goes on the mission, not to return till it is complete. Or at least till he forgets.
