Tax day was near and Daddy was fretting over it, profusely. Anika has been watching Robin Hood with quite some interest lately, and can sympathize with Daddy about taxes, as one of the more depressing periods in Nottingham’s history occurs when Sir John raises taxes 3 times over.
So, while driving solo with Anika, Daddy complains – “Anika, Daddy has to pay a lot of taxes, and Daddy has no money to pay them.”
“Why Daddy?”
“Because all my money is used up in paying for our food, our house, our clothes, Anika’s school.”
“You need money for all of that?”
“Yes, Gubs, and that is why Daddy goes to work all day. Without Daddy’s work, we would not even have any food to eat.”
“But can’t you get more money from work?”
[Ignoring the fact that Mama reminds Daddy of this fact quite often]“No Gubs, only so much money. And it all gets over so I cannot pay for taxes.”
[Deep thought]“Daddy, you can take money from my Piggy Bank to pay for your taxes. And if there is money left over, we can pay for food, the house and clothes, so you don’t have to go to work any more.”
